Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 was an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member of Congress and a former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The attention of the nation was drawn by her outspoken examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
